Is $958 a Week Really Enough to Cover a Full-Time Role? Here's the Maths

You've been meaning to hire for months. Every time you sit down to actually write the job ad, you get as far as the salary line and stall. The number looks fine at first. Then you start thinking about everything else that comes with it, and the number stops looking so simple.

Somewhere in the middle of all that, you might have come across the idea of a fully managed role for $958 a week and thought: that can't be right. A whole role, covered, for less than you'd pay just to fill the vacancy properly? It sounds like there has to be a catch.

There isn't a catch. But you're right to want to see the maths before you believe it, so let's actually run it.

What the job listing doesn't tell you

The salary you'd advertise is only the starting figure. On top of it, you're looking at KiwiSaver contributions, covering annual leave and sick leave, and ACC levies. Then there's the cost of actually finding someone: the time spent writing the ad, sorting applications, running interviews, and following up with the ones who don't work out. Most business owners don't put a dollar figure on that time, but it's real, and it's usually weeks of it.

Once someone's hired, the meter keeps running. Training and onboarding take time away from whoever's teaching them, which is usually you or someone else who's already stretched. And even once they're up to speed, the average employee is only productively working for around 2 hours and 53 minutes of an 8 hour day. That's just how a normal working day plays out, between meetings, interruptions, and admin of their own, and you're paying for the full day regardless.

Add it all up and the real annual cost of a full-time admin or accounts role usually lands well above the number on the job listing. It's just spread across enough different lines that nobody sits down and adds them up in one place.

Then there's the price on our side

We cover that same role, admin, accounts, EA work, whatever the job description calls for, for $958 a week.

No KiwiSaver, no leave entitlements, no recruitment costs, and no long-term contract holding you to it if things change.

Sounds too good to be true?

We get that a lot, so here's the honest answer. We're not cutting corners, but we are more efficient because you're not paying for the hours your last hire spent not working. We've been running support roles inside New Zealand businesses since 2012, so we already know what an admin, accounts, or EA role looks like on day one. Pair that experience with a skilled NZ-based team, some genuinely smart business automation running quietly in the background, and a global support team for the volume work, and we can manage that entire role for the equivalent of minimum wage. Your dedicated Role Manager owns the relationship and the outcome. You deal with one person, we handle the mix.

Why the maths still holds up

What you're actually paying for is the role done properly, without the overheads that come with employing someone directly.

You can also compare that to leaving the role vacant while you decide, which has its own cost. Every week it sits empty is a week you or someone on your team is quietly absorbing the work that role was meant to handle, on top of everything else already on their plate.

Run your own numbers

You don't have to take our word for the comparison. We've built a calculator that lets you put in the exact salary you'd budget for the role, and see the full cost sitting next to $958 a week. It takes about two minutes, and it's worth doing before you write that job ad.

See what that role is actually costing you to fill. And if the numbers make the case for you, book a chat with Brenna and we'll talk through what handing it over would actually look like.
